THE FUTURE OF THE SEAWEED SECTOR IN FLANDERS

European seaweed (or macroalgae) are unique sea products that will play an increasing role in the local food supply and improve the sustainability of the food chain. Flanders can also play an important role here: the North Sea is ideal for the cultivation of various kinds of seaweed with economic potential. Right along the value chain, there is a sea of opportunities open to the companies and research institutes in our region. This presentation will set out the vision for Seaweed in Flanders in 2025 & 2035, along with recommendations for actors and government agencies.
